Happy birthday to us! Where did that last year go?! It only seems like yesterday I was tearing my hair out looking at the HMRC website trying to figure out how to start my own business – now I’m preparing my books ready to go to the accountant.
I have worked in floristry since I was young. I remember coming home from school at 5 years old and sitting on the workbench at my Father’s nursery in Leicestershire making bows for bouquets. Having worked as a Weekend Girl for them and then later, full time as a florist, I took myself off travelling to various countries and have even had the pleasure of working alongside some amazing floral designers in Canada.
When I returned home a couple of years later, I struggled to find a job that would keep me and which I also enjoyed. I managed to get a part time job to keep my bank balance topped up but have always been at my happiest being creative with flowers. I always enjoyed working with weddings and work well alone so it seemed like the natural progression to move forward into the terrifying world of self employment!
I am now back at my Parent’s nursery as their florist a few days a week. The rest of the time I dedicate to building my little business. What started as a random musing over a glass of red one evening has evolved into a real life thing and I couldn’t be more pleased with how things are progressing.
It would be impossible to name every person that I have to thank! To my beautiful Brides and Grooms to friends, family members and fellow suppliers – from a little like on Facebook or a retweet on Twitter, you have all helped Budding Floral Designs grow and develop along the way and I couldn’t be more grateful. Thank you all, from the bottom of my heart. Bring on year two!
